“You don’t realise how far you’ve come until you look back”
Up until 2006 I worked in Chesterfield as a postman but experiencing mental health difficulties means I’ve not been able to work since then. I have enjoyed a variety of volunteering roles though, although none of them led to full time work.
Because of my poor mental health everything can often seem worse than it is, so having the BBO coaches there for moral support is invaluable. I don’t think I’d have made half the progress I have without their understanding of the different physical and mental challenges we all face.
I recently had an interview for a freelance role in a team that focuses on Co-design and Improvement. On the day of the interview, my BBO Work and Enterprise coach met me before hand and gave me some words of advice which was really useful. I didn’t think I’d ever be in paid work again so I’m hugely excited to be starting a new and exciting role. As it’s freelance I’ll be able to go in as and when they need me, which is a really good way to integrate back into employment at a pace that suits me.
